South Africa: Kwazakele Police Arrest Suspect With Firearm

Quick response to information received by SAPS Kwazakele Vispol Task Team resulted in the arrest of a 36-year-old suspect and the recovery of a 7.65 pistol.

It is alleged that on Sunday, 8 November 2020 at about 20:20, the members followed up on information about a male wearing a black and white Chevrolet shirt who was in possession of a firearm and that he was working at a shop in Jamela Road in Veeplaas.

On arrival at the shop, the suspect on seeing the police ran towards the back door with the firearm in his hand. As he opened the door and was about to throw the firearm out, he was confronted by police. When he ran back inside the shop, he was arrested. A 7,65 pistol was seized. The serial number has been filed off.

He was detained on a charge of prohibited possession of a firearm and is expected to appear in the Motherwell Magistrates' court this morning, 9 November 2020.
