Washington — The historic decision of the United States to recognize the full and entire Moroccanness of Morocco on its Sahara, announced during the telephone conversation of HM King Mohammed VI with the American President, Donald Trump is "a clear and unambiguous message to the world" that the conflict over the Sahara "must end," said American analyst Calvin Dark.
"Today's announcement by the United States reaffirms two things that the international community has known for decades: Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara, and the fact that the Moroccan autonomy proposal is the only basis for a just and lasting solution to the conflict," added this expert on international issues and the Maghreb in a statement to MAP.
Today is a milestone for the thousands of Sahrawis who live in the southern provinces of Morocco, because this announcement opens the way to more stability, security, investment, trade and economic development that will benefit them directly, said Dark adding that it is "also a strong signal of hope to the Sahrawi refugees detained in the Polisario camps (in Tindouf, southwest of Algeria) that their nightmare will soon end."
With this new decision, "Algeria and the Polisario must meet Morocco on the negotiations table and resolve this conflict on the basis of the Moroccan proposal of compromise", he concluded.
The historic decision of the United States of America to recognize the full and entire Moroccanness of the Kingdom on its Sahara is the fruit of intense consultations on the subject for several years between HM the King and the President of the United States.
