Gaborone — The national boxing team is expected in camp before end of the month.
The team was expected to have reported for camp on January 5, but the date was move forward to give the association time to complete some logistics.
The team was in camp before the festive season, but went on break to give pugilists a breather prior to the envisaged Tokyo 2020 Olympic qualifiers.
In an interview, Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) spokesperson, Taolo Tlouetsile indicated that preparations were ongoing for the team to be back in camp, against the initial date of January 5.
He highlighted that BoBA was in the process of securing accommodation, organiaing transportation for boxers to Gaborone as well as other necessary plans, noting that once they were all in camp, COVID-19 tests would be conducted.
Tlouetsile said they had communicated with Botswana National Olympic Committee for the team to report for camp a little later than the initial date in order to have enough time to fully prepare for them, taking into consideration COVID-19 protocols.
All the boxers, he said were urged to keep on training during the holidays, adding that they were constantly in touch with the coach for assistance when needed.
Regarding planned games with Zambia, he explained that the games were supposed to have been held in December but were postponed to a later date as per Zambians' request.
