Africa: Covid-19 Death Toll Nears 86,000 Across Continent

Cape Town — As of January 26, confirmed cases of Covid-19 from 55 African countries reached 3,454,580. Reported deaths in Africa reached 85,955 and 2,922,854 people have recovered.

South Africa has the most reported cases - 1,417,537 - and 41,117 people died. Other most-affected countries are Morocco (466,626), Tunisia ( 198,636 ), Egypt ( 162,486 ), Ethiopia ( 134,132 ), and Nigeria (122,996). The numbers are compiled by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University (world map) using statistics from the World Health Organization and other international institutions as well national and regional public health departments.
