Namibia: Technical Glitch Hits Erongored

THE main internet service provider for ErongoRED's prepaid electricity services experienced a technical problem on Sunday, which resulted in all vendors being unable to sell prepaid electricity to customers.

On Monday ErongoRED was able to sell prepaid electricity from all its pay-points, but at the moment, customers are only able to buy electricity from ErongoRED offices and not from other facilities such as online banking, supermarkets and services stations, a press release issued by ErongoRED CEO Fessor Mbango on Tuesday read.

Customers who do not have sufficient units are encouraged to visit the nearest ErongoRED paypoint to buy prepaid electricity.

"The technicians are working around the clock to restore services at all other prepaid vending facilities across the region. At present, we cannot say how long the interruption will continue. However, the situation is receiving the necessary attention," said Mbango.

In order to assist customers during this glitch, all ErongoRED paypoints will be open until 19h00 until prepaid vending services are restored throughout the region, and additional resources will be activated to assist customers through an emergency vending facility.
