Tunisia: Kais Saied Says Supports Honest Judges in Fighting Corruption

Tunis/Tunisia — President of the Republic Kais Saied met, Monday in Carthage, President of the Supreme Judicial Council (CSM) Youssef Bouzakher.

Saied expressed «great consideration for and unconditional support to honest judges who are determined to fight the various forms of corruption,» said a Presidency statement.

He stressed the importance of an independent judiciary and the role that an impartial judiciary plays in building the rule of law.

«Judges face a critical situation amid attempts by some parties to destroy evidence incriminating defendants,» the President said.

He stated that he is watching the judicial situation carefully «so that no one can evade justice, regardless of their wealth, position or political affiliation.»
