Namibia: Woman Arrested for Assaulting, Burning Child

A WOMAN from Onainganga village in Ohangwena region was arrested for allegedly burning and assaulting her five-year-old nephew for eating mushroom from the pot.

Confirming the incident to The Namibian on Wednesday morning, Ohangwena police spokesperson sergeant Andrew Nghiyolwa said the incident happened on Sunday.

Nghiyolwa added that the woman (37), placed the child's hands in a hot pot while beating him with a stick in the face for eating a mushroom left for her.

Nghiyolwa said the boy is recuperating at Oshakati State Hospital and is in a stable condition.

Nghiyolwa urged parents and guardians to refrain from abusing children.
