Tanzania: Ten-Year Old Girl Pupil Raped, Killed

POLICE in Kagera Region are investigating an incident where a Standard Four girl pupil was raped by unknown people before her body was found dumped in a bush.

Kagera Regional Police Commander (RPC), Revocatus Malimi told reporters that the incident happened on April 5, this year.

"Initial investigations revealed that the ten year old girl (name withheld), a Standard Four pupil at Kahororo primary school, in Bukoba Municipal Council was last seen on April 5, this year when she was sent by her mother, identified as Agnes Salvatory (30), a resident of Rwazi Street in Kahororo Ward to buy soap in a nearby shop.

Since then she disappeared until on the following day when her body was spotted dumped in a bush. Mr Malimi explained that the body had a big wound on the head indicating the poor girl was hit with a heavy object before she was raped, including committing unnatural offence against the victim. The RPC appealed for public cooperation to arrest the culprits who are still at large.

"This is an act of violence which should not be tolerated by any civilised community," he said.

Meanwhile, Kusekwa Madaha (27), a resident of Kyerwa District's Murongo village is helping police investigations for allegedly impregnating a Standard Four Pupil (name withheld). Kagera Regional Police Commander (RPC) Revocatus Malimi explained that the suspect would be arraigned before the court when investigations are completed.
