Botswana: Masisi Participates in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Roundtable

Gaborone — President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi will today (April 15) participate in the virtual Africa Regional Commonwealth Heads of Government Roundtable.

According to a state from the Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation, the roundtable will be hosted by the United Kingdom and Rwanda in their capacities as outgoing and incoming chairs-in-office of the Commonwealth respectively.

The Meeting will be held under the theme 'Accelerating Economic Recovery and Sustainable Markets'.

The statement says the roundtable will acord African member states the opportunity to deliberate on a number of issues pertaining to climate change and green economic recovery, as well as efforts Commonwealth countries can make in addressing the impact of climate change for a more sustainable future.

It further states that President Masisi will, during the deliberations, present Botswana's roadmap for building resilience and preparedness to the effects of climate change and economic recovery priorities, particularly amidst the adverse impact of COVID-19.

President Masisi's delegation will include the Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation, Dr Lemogang Kwape, Minister of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism, Ms Phildah Kereng and Botswana's Envoy to the United Kingdom, Reverend Dr John Seakgosing.
