Recognizing the lack of access to sustainable energy and the untapped potential for renewable sources in fragile states, the g7+ and council on state fragility launched a call to action, urging governments, businesses and development agencies to collaborate to end energy poverty in conflict-affected countries to meet the aspiration of Sustainable Development Goal 7 of Agenda 2030.
Signatories to the call, launched on 24 February 2021, include political leaders (current and former heads of states and governments) and more international organizations such as the United Nations Development Program and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, multi-lateral development agencies, businesses and think tanks.
The dialogue will bring together governments, donors and private firms to share experiences and views from the ground on ending energy poverty. This will help development partners realize commitments made in the call to action.
Mr. Daniel Schroth, Acting Director for the Department of Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency at the African Development Bank, will participate in the panel session: "What do we need to do differently to scale up green energy in fragile contexts?"
