Tunisia: A Map of Disability to Be Developed Soon - Ministry of Social Affairs

Tunis/Tunisia — Work to develop a map of disability in Tunisia under a cooperation programme with the U.S. Embassy in Tunisia will be launched in 2021, Director General at the Ministry of Social Affairs Raja Ben Brahim said Monday.

Speaking at a session held by parliamentary Committee on Women, Children, Youth and the Elderly Affairs, she pointed out that this map will determine the number of people with disabilities.

After the U.S. Embassy agreed to fund the programme, a working session with representatives of the National Institute of Statistics (INS), will be held next week to discuss its axes, she added.

The Ministry is counting on this programme, especially in the absence of official statistics on the number of people with disabilities and the forms of disability, the ministry official further indicated.

She also said a biometric card will be developed for the benefit of people with disabilities, as part of a review of legal texts relating to people with disabilities for a better adaptation to reality.
