Tunisia: Launching of 'El JEM 213' Patrol Boat

Tunis/Tunisia — Minister of National Defence, Ibrahim Bartaji, attended Wednesday afternoon, at the Sfax port, the launching of the patrol boat El Jem 213 manufactured for the national navy in partnership with the company of industrial and naval constructions (SCIN).

In a statement to the media, the minister stressed that the construction of this patrol boat by Tunisian skills is a sign of autonomy from the foreign manufacturer and a way to preserve public money in addition to promoting employment and the development of technology and naval and military industry in the service of the nation and its army.

The minister said that the public-private partnership with SCIN will continue to build 7 other naval units for the army.

For his part, General Manager of SCIN, Wassim Koubaa, said that this patrol boat is the third naval unit manufactured by purely Tunisian skills for the benefit of the national navy within the framework of a partnership launched in 2012 with the Ministry of National Defence.

Built according to international standards, the patrol boat El Jem 213, weighing 80 tonnes, is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment including night control.
