Tunisia: ARP - Rached Khiari Called to Provide Written Statement On His Arrest By Military Justice

Tunis/Tunisia — The bureau of the House of People's Representatives (French: ARP) met on Thursday exceptionally, to deliberate on MP Rached Khiari's interrogation by the military justice.

During this meeting, chaired by Speaker of the parliament Rached Ghannouchi, it was decided to invite MP Rached Khiari to speak out in writing on the circumstances surrounding this case, to be examined as soon as possible, said a statement of the parliament.

The vice-chair of the Committee on Rules of Procedure, Immunity and Parliamentary and Electoral Laws, Noômen El Euch, told TAP earlier the committee has not received any request to lift the immunity of MP Rached Khiari.

He pointed to the complexity of the immunity lifting procedure. A request in this sense is sent to the presidency of the parliament before it is transferred to transferring it to the committee on internal rules.

The military justice, on Tuesday, initiated an investigation into the allegations made by Rached Khiari in which he accused director of Kais Saied's electoral campaign, Fawzi Daas, of having received transfers from abroad (US sides) to finance his campaign.
