Africa: Continent Nears 120,000 Covid-19 Deaths

As of April 23, confirmed cases of Covid-19 from 55 African countries reached  4,474,055 while over 10,600,820 vaccinations have been administered across the continent.

Reported deaths in Africa reached  119,227 and  4,013,144 people have recovered. South Africa has the most reported cases -   1,571,348   - and  53,995 people died. Other most-affected countries are Morocco ( 507,938 ), Tunisia ( 294,138 ), Ethiopia ( 247,989 ), Egypt ( 219,774 ), Libya ( 174,216 ) and Nigeria ( 164,588 ).

The numbers are compiled by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University (world map) using statistics from the World Health Organization and other international institutions as well as national and regional public health departments.
