Tunisia: Almost Unanimous Agreement On PM Asking Parliament to Allow Him to Goven By Decrees -Oussama Khelifi

Tunis/Tunisia — Head of the parliamentary bloc of Qalb Tounes (30 MPs) Oussama Khelifi said Wednesday there is an almost unanimous agreement with his party's partners in the ruling coalition on the need for PM Hichem Mechichi to ask parliament to allow him to govern by decree-laws.

The goal is to facilitate the Premier's task in fighting the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, amid the economic and social crisis faced by the country.

Speaking to TAP, Khelifi said the economic and social situation in the country was discussed in a meeting with the PM during which an emphasis was put on the need to delegate to him the powers (to legislate) to initiate reforms.

The impact of the crisis on small businesses and on the public sector require delegating powers to take all necessary measures as it happened with the Fakhfakh government, he pointed out.
