Tunis/Tunisia — "Tunisia will overcome its economic crisis the way Portugal did, since it represents a democratic exception in the region and that its European Union partners will always stand by its side," Portuguese Prime Minister and President-in-office of the Council of the European Union António Costa said Tuesday.
At a meeting with Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi, Costa also pointed out that Portugal and Tunisia are two friendly countries that share common principles.
Mechichi, for his part, commended the good relations of cooperation and friendship between the two countries. He pointed to the COVID-19 fallout on the economic situation, especially that Tunisia has launched major economic reforms requiring international support and solidarity.
The two sides agreed to hold the fifth meeting of the High Joint Commission in Lisbon at the end of this year.
