Tunis/Tunisia — U.S. laboratory Pfizer has filed an application to the Ministry of Health to secure a market authorisation for its COVID-19 vaccine for adolescents 12-15 years of age, Meryem Khrouf, director of pharmacy and medicine at the Ministry said Wednesday.
Khrouf told TAP experts in the ministry are reviewing this application.
Registering adolescents aged between 12 and 15 years among the age group concerned by vaccination depends on the evolution of the epidemic situation, she noted.
If scientific studies confirm the need to vaccinate children, the Ministry of Health will initiate this operation as part of the priorities of the national vaccination strategy, she pointed out.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration, on May 10, expanded the emergency use authorization (EUA) for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine for the prevention of COVID-19 to include adolescents 12 through 15 years of age. The Public Health Agency of Canada did the same.
