Tunisia: Gafsa - Phosphate Transport From Om Laarayes Resumes After 5 Years of Interruption

Tunis/Tunisia — The Gafsa Phosphate Company (CPG) resumed, Friday, the transport of phosphate from the production unit of Om Larayes to the producers of chemical fertilisers, after an interruption that lasted five years, due to repeated protests and sit-ins, said Secretary-General of the Regional Union of Labour in Om Larayes, Ahmed Saidi.

Saidi stressed to TAP that land transport has been blocked for five years by the sit-ins, adding that rail transport is no longer an alternative, given the interruption of the rail network between Redeyef and Om Laarayes, Kef Eddour and Metlaoui, since the floods of October 2017.
