press release

Provincial Cabinet appoints Minister Ivan Meyer as Leader of Government Business

I want to whole-heartedly congratulate the Provincial Minister of Agriculture, Dr Ivan Meyer, on his appointment as the Leader of Government Business (LOGB) and know that he will bring the necessary experience and diplomacy to this role.

During this week's Provincial Cabinet, Minister Meyer was appointed to serve as the LOGB in the Western Cape. He will play in important role in acting as a bridge between parliament and the executive, ensuring that the interests and concerns of residents, who are represented by parliament, are addressed. This role in addition to his current ministerial role.

In his role as LOGB, he will be responsible for:

Managing the affairs of the Provincial Cabinet in the Western Cape Provincial Parliament.

Liaising with the Executive Authority about legislation and policy impacting the provincial legislative mandates.

Ensuring that Cabinet members attend to their parliamentary responsibilities.

Liaising with the Premier, Speaker and Chief Whip of the ruling party on parliamentary affairs impacting on Cabinet Business.

Reporting to the Executive Authority on any governance and administrative matters in the course of executing his duties.

I would like to wish Minister Meyer well as he takes on this additional, important role.
