Kenya: Nairobi City Stars Edge Out Stima in BetKing Premier League

Nairobi — Nairobi City Stars came from a goal down to beat relegation fighting Western Stima 2-1 in a BetKing Premier League match at the Ruaraka Complex on Wednesday afternoon.

City Stars scored two goals in the last six minutes of the match with skipper Peter Opiyo scoring with an 89th minute penalty after substitute Erick Ombija had drawn them level.

Stima could not hold on to a first half lead as the result saw them remain rooted in 16th spot with 13 points, sticking to the relegation play-off zone.Stima had started brighter with the uptop pace of Kennedy ‘Agogo’ Otieno and Baron Oketch being vital in their breakaway play.

They were successful six minutes to the break when Oketch bolted off on the left off a counter before slicing a low cross into the box that Rodgers Ouma gladfully tapped home into an empty net.

City Stars could have drawn level just three minutes after going down but captain Anthony Kimani volleyed the ball wide after a poorly defended corner landed on his path at the edge of the box.

In the second half, City Stars came off the blocks looking to get back into the game. They launched attack after attack and forced the visitors to play deep in their own half.

The pressure bore fruit with six minutes left to play when substitute Ombija volleyed the ball home after Stima failed to clear a corner.

Three minutes later, they scored the winner when Opiyo stepped up to convert a penalty after a handball inside the box.
