Tunisia: Agreement to Give Potato Producers in Highlands Access to Loans Signed

Tunis/Tunisia — A partnership agreement to give professional agricultural organisations and potato producers in the highlands access to loans and facilitate the pre-financing of seed, has just been signed between the Agency for the Promotion of Agricultural Investment (APIA), the Technical Center of the potato and artichoke (CTPTA), the Association of Microcredit (AMC) Foussana and Giz Tunisia's project "Innovations for Agriculture and Agri-Food" (IAAA).

"This partnership aims to anchor and sustain potato cultivation in the highlands through the establishment of a microcredit fund with a microfinance institution, to ensure the empowerment of producers to purchase quality seeds and therefore contribute to improving yields and incomes.

The agreement is part of the IAAA project of GIZ Tunisia mandated by the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development, in partnership with APIA - Agency for the Promotion of Agricultural Investments, under the leadership of of the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries.
