Tunisia: UGTT Urge UTICA to Launch Wage Negotiations

Tunis/Tunisia — Deputy Secretary General of the Tunisian General Labour Union (UGTT) in charge of the private sector Ali Boughdiri, on Wednesday, deplored the indifference of the Tunisian Confederation of Industry, Trade and Handicrafts (UTICA) to the UGTT's call for the launch of wage negotiations.

"Such a position threatens social stability," he said after a meeting held by the private sector grouping at the UGTT Wednesday.

The meeting urged UTICA to launch negotiations before the end of July.

The UGTT defends the interests of employees by all available means to demand abidance with social dialogue and impose respect for wage negotiations.

The union is committed to the call for wage increases in sectors that have made profits and whose activities were not affected by the pandemic, such as the pharmaceutical industry, cleaning companies, food industries and others.
