Nigeria: Banditry - Protect Farmers to Avoid Famine - Sultan Urges

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa'ad Abubakar has urged governments at all levels to ensure farmers were protected this farming season to avoid famine.

He stated this in his Sallah sermon on the occasion of Eid-el-Adha on Tuesday.

"We thank God that it has started raining, although some said it is late but this is how God wants it and we are ever grateful to Him.

"It is now time for our farmers to go back to farm but they can only do that when they are sure of their security.

"So I am calling on government at all levels to ensure the safety of their farmers in their farmlands or else the country will derail into famine," he warned.

According to him, there was serious hardship and hunger in the country, urging the leaders to fear God and take measures against the problems.

He admonished Nigerians to continue praying for peace, stability and prosperity.
