Tunisia: Jerandi/Abdullah Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Discuss Tunisia's Political Situation

Tunis/Tunisia — Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Othman Jerandi on Wednesday received a phone call from UAE opposite number Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al-Nahyan.

The phone conversation focused on the latest political developments in Tunisia following the recent measures announced by President of the Republic Kais Saied, a Foreign Department press release reads on Thursday.

Othman Jerandi assured his counterpart that the President's decisions comply with the Constitution. The goal is, he said, to preserve Tunisia's stability and the smooth running of State institutions as well as their protection from threats to the country in view of the economic, social and health difficulties and their impact on social peace in Tunisia.

These decisions, Jerandi added, had been driven by the will of the people and aimed at finalising the democratic process in a climate of security and stability.

Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed al-Nahyan asserted his country's support to everything that is in the best interest of Tunisia and the well-being of the Tunisian people.

He voiced confidence in Tunisia's ability to overcome this critical stage, so as to preserve the country's security and stability and to help restore the normal operation of the state's institutions.

Al-Nahyan also affirmed that the UAE will continue supporting Tunisia in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
