Tunisia: First Meeting of Governance Committee for Defence Sector

Tunis/Tunisia — Minister of National Defence, Imed Memmich, inaugurated on Wednesday, at the department's headquarters, the first meeting of the Governance Committee for the defence sector, in the presence of representatives of the military institution's structures and directors of establishments under its jurisdiction.

Quoted in a statement of the ministry, Memmich stressed the importance of governance of the defence sector to ensure the proper functioning of the military institution, promote human resources and improve performance.

The minister stressed the need to open up to national authorities and international organisations concerned with good governance and the fight against corruption.

According to the Minister, the work of this committee is part of the interaction of the military institution with the national effort to further consolidate good governance within state structures. He reviewed the main lines of the Ministry's short-term strategy (2021-2023) and its orientations in this field.
