Angolan Artur Almeida Chairs Cosafa

Luanda — Angolan Artur Almeida was this Saturday elected president of the Council of Southern African Football Associations (COSAFA), in a single-list election held in Windhoek, Namibia.

The president of the Angolan Football Federation won by unanimous vote (13 votes), replacing Zimbabwean Phillip Chiyangwa, who was elected in 2016.

In statements immediately after his election, the new leader of football in the southern region guaranteed the maintenance of actions aimed at the development of the women's sector.

Said Ali Said Athouman, from the Comoros, is the new vice-president.

The ordinary members of the Executive Committee are Timothy Shongwe (Swaziland), Kiba Mohoanyane (Lesotho), Andrianony Victorien (Madagascar), Walter Nyamilandu-Manda (Malawi), Faizal Sidat (Mozambique), Solandranja Mahamatova (Madagascar), Anastasia Tshichlas (South Africa) and Brenda Kunda (Zambia).

Founded in 1997, the Council of African Football Associations, officially abbreviated as COSAFA, is an association of football federations from countries in the south of the continent.
