The African Development Bank will launch its 2022 African Economic Outlook on Wednesday, 25 May 2022 during its Annual Meetings in Accra.
The theme of this year's report is Supporting Climate Resilience and a Just Energy Transition in Africa. The theme highlights climate change as a growing threat to lives and livelihoods in Africa, and also mirrors the theme of the 2022 Annual Meetings.
Despite having 17 percent of the current global population, Africa has accounted for a negligible 3% of cumulative worldwide CO2 emissions historically. However, climate change and extreme weather events disproportionately affect Africa, with severe economic, social, and environmental consequences for its people.
The launch event will include two segments: a presentation of the highlights of the 2022 African Economic Outlook report and a discussion of its findings. Consistent with the report's theme, the focus will be on building climate resilience and securing a just energy transition to achieve a net-zero carbon development pathway.
