Tema — The Tema Metropolitan Assembly(TMA) last year raked in revenue of GH¢24,450,112.87 representing 103.0 per cent out of a projected internally generated revenue of GH¢23,528,214.25 for the year.
The Metropolitan Chief Executive of TMA, Mr Yohane Amarh Ashitey, announced this here, Tuesday during the opening of the third session of the eighth Assembly.
He explained that though the assembly recorded a growth rate of 24 per cent of its internally generated fund in 2021and that marked the highest since the Tema West Municipal Assembly was curved out of TMA in March 2018, the figures did not reflect the potential of the Assembly since the figures were revised down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr Ashitey however, said to maximise revenue collection in the course of the year a Task Force would be formed to ensure full compliance of provisions of the fee fixing resolution, especially relating to business operating permit and fines.
According to him installation and maintenance of more than 2,000 security lights at vantage areas in the metropolis and the engagement of the Navy Command as the premix monitoring team to ensure equitable distribution of premix fuel among other measures had helped to improve security in the jurisdiction.
He said the Tema Metropolitan Security Council, as part of efforts to curb robbery and other crimes, plans to evict dwellers from notorious slums in the Tema Municipality.
The slums are Bangkok, behind Deks School in Community 8, Tuobodom in Community 12, SakasakaPark, behind JoecarlHotel in Community 6, Ayigbe Town at the Tema General Hospital, Community 9 cemetery and Community 5000 at Community 1.

On measures to decongest the city he said the Assembly had reengaged the services of Road Safety Management Services to assist the assembly in towing trucks and vehicles parked at unauthorised places within the metropolis.
He noted that to bridge the infrastructure gap in the area, the TMA would give opportunity to corporate bodies to pick and complete one project proposed by the Assembly in accordance with their corporate social responsibility activities.
MrAshitey said the TMA was working with the Ghana Tourism Authority, traditional rulers, the Ghana Education Service and the Eastern Naval Command to identify tourism potentials and sites and with a view to boosting domestic tourism.
The Metropolitan Chief Executive Officer said the institution of Operation clean your frontage campaign was helping to address poor sanitation challenges in the area.
He warned that industries found discharging untreated waste into the Chemu Lagoon and other open places would be penalised.
He said a number of measures were being implemented to improve the welfare of staff of the assembly and to improve service delivery.
"These include the capacity building and promotion of staff, the introduction of online permit processing system and an electronic memo tracker to help deal expeditiously with correspondence from members of the public," he said.
