South Africa: Minister Fikile Mbalula Sends Condolences to Families of 16 People Who Died in a Road Crash in Kwazulu-Natal

The Minister of Transport, Mr Fikile Mbalula has learned with sadness of a terrible road crash that claimed the lives of 16 people and left 12 people injured in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu Natal.

The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) updated the Minister of a road crash that occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning. The crash involved three trucks, two minibus taxis and four light-motor vehicles on the N2 between the Peter Brown and Chatterton off-ramps.

"Our road safety campaign continues to encourage South Africans to behave in a manner that ensures safety of all road users on our roads.

This tragic crash occurred at in the early hours of the morning claiming so many lives and leaving a dozen injured. The scale of the crash is terrifying and saddening. I convey my heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones whose lives were cut short by this road crash.

I am encouraged to hear that authorities responded promptly and the RTMC will investigate the crash." Minister Mbalula said.

National and Provincial Traffic Law enforcement authorities are investigating the crash as the root cause is yet to be determined.
