Luanda — The Angolan government should increase financial incentives for scientific research activities, create training and exchange programmes to facilitate the country's economic diversification and development, recommends a study presented Thursday in Luanda.
Available data shows that the higher education sector has Kz 26,582,611,073.00 (approximately 0.14 percent) of the national budget allocated to the General State Budget to improve the quality of education and development of scientific and technological research.
The study, drawn up by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Angola and the Ministry for Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESCTI), said that the higher education sector should focus on scientific development in priority areas for sustainable development and economic diversification.
Increasing the budget and incentive to the sector aims to promote the creation of a critical mass of research, sufficient to support the manufacturing and productive development priorities set out in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
