Luanda — The deadline for delivery of candidacies to the Constitutional Court (TC), ahead of August 24 General Elections in Angola, ended Saturday at 11:59 pm local time (22:59 GMT), after eight proposals have been forwarded.
The last day was marked by the handover of the candidacy by P-NJANGO (Nationalist Party for Justice in Angola), recently founded by Eduardo Jonatão "Dinho" Tchingunji".
The delivery began on 6 June, three days after the call for elections by the President of the Republic.
P-NJANGO was legalised by the Constitutional Court at the end of May this year, a few days before the general elections were called, on June 3rd.
Former Minister of Hotel and Tourism in the Government of Unity and National Reconciliation (GURN), formed in 1997, Dinho Tchingunji was a candidate for the leadership of the main opposition UNITA party in 2003, before leaving this party in 2008.
Twelve political parties have expressed interest in running for 2022 elections.
This number includes seven individual candidates and five grouped in the CASA-CE coalition (Broad Convergence for the Salvation of Angola - Electoral Coalition).
Of the 13 parties legally constituted in the country and recognised by the Constitutional Court, the Democratic Bloc (BD) is the only one that did not file the candidacy, according to the Political Parties Office of the TC.
In addition to P-NJANGO, filed the candidacies MPLA, UNITA, PRS, FNLA, APN, PHA and the CASA-CE coalition.
