Gambia: National Assembly Select Committee On GCSW Briefs Gender Minister

The National Assembly Select Committee on Gender, Children and Social Welfare ( GCSW) last Friday briefed the Minister of Gender and Children and its satellite institutions on the policy direction of the committee in relations to its operations and oversight roles.

The Vice Chairperson of the Committee, Fatou Cham, explained that the exercise was aimed at acquainting stakeholders with the Constitutional and Statutory provisions, whose understanding are key in the implementation of the work plan of the Committee.

"We're herein identifying the objectives of establishing the Committee; explain the responsibilities of the relevant stakeholders whose participation and collaboration are indispensable in monitoring the performance of the Ministry. It will also accord the Committee to highlight the negative consequences of weak oversight and map out a way forward for effective collaboration to enhance successful outcomes in safeguarding respect for and adherence to the fundamentals in compliance with procedures and processes."

The session featured a presentation by Minister of Gender, Children and Social Welfare, Fatou Kinteh in Introduction to Gender Equality and Women Empowerment, Social Protection and Welfare at her Ministry.
