Kenya: Poster Announcing Debates for Election Hopefuls in Kenya's Nakuru County Is Fake

A poster with a claim that Mission to the Body of Christ International (MBCI), a Kenyan TV channel, is planning a series of debates for people seeking elective positions in Nakuru county has been shared on Facebook.

The poster, branded with the logo of MBCI TV, reads: "NAKURU COUNTY ASPIRANTS DEBATE 2022."

According to the poster, the debates will be held for those hoping to represent the county in one of five positions: governor, senator, women representative, member of parliament and member of the county assembly.

This poster has been shared here, here, here, and here.

In previous years debates in the country have tended to be held only for the presidential hopefuls. This year, debates for running mates and governor candidates for the prized county of Nairobi, which hosts the capital, have been televised.

Is this poster legitimate, allowing voters in the county to make informed decisions on who to vote for in the 9 August 2022 elections?

Ignore fake poster

No, voters in the county will have to wait longer. MBCI TV through its official Facebook page distanced itself from the poster.

"BEWARE OF THIS FAKE NEWS CIRCULATING THE SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS," wrote MBCI TV pointedly.
