Angola: Elections2022 - Unita Pledges More Investment in Diamond Areas

Cuango — UNITA intends to implement policies requiring diamond mining companies operating in north-eastern Lunda Norte Province to invest 20 percent of their output in social projects in the regions where they operate, in case the party wins the elections.

The proposal of the second largest force in Parliament was presented on Tuesday in Cafunfo, in the Municipality of Cuango, Lunda Norte Province, by its presidential candidate, Adalberto Costa Júnior, during a mass rally.

The politician interacted with the electorate, giving information on the party's governance programme, having mentioned the need to facilitate the granting of subsidized credits among the youth and the reform of public procurement policies.

Adalberto Costa Júnior reiterated the proposal to revise the constitution in a way that the President of the Republic and deputies to the National Assembly should be elected separately and the holding of elections for local government.

UNITA's government programme proposes, among other measures, the reform of the State and defends a better quality of education, health, access to housing and employment, the promotion of a market economy and the eradication of regional asymmetries.

Adalberto Junior will work for three days in Lunda Norte, with the holding of a rally on Wednesday in the chief district of Cuango Municipality, and Thursday he will be in Chitato Municipality.

Lunda Norte Province has 704 polling stations to be assisted by 4,676 staffers.

Seven political parties and one coalition are running for the general elections of 24 August.

Roughly 14.3 million voters are eligible to vote, including 22.560 who are residing abroad.
