Nairobi — The Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) has urged Kenyans to resume back to their economic activities after the announcement of the presidential results by the Independence Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Monday.

Through a statement to newsrooms, KEPSA's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Carole Kariuki thanked the citizens and the leaders for maintaining peace during the election period as it favors the business environment in the country.

"We urge all Kenyans to go back to work and resume their nation-building activities as the country strives to recover and rebuild from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, drought and challenges such as the ongoing war in Ukraine and rising global inflation, all that have led to a higher cost of living not only for Kenya," she said.

The KEPSA boss further noted that even though Azimio is likely to seek redress from the Supreme Court, she remained positive that the process would be done in a peaceful manner as well.

"The legal option taken by the aggrieved party to go to court is encouraged and we look forward to it being conducted in a peaceful environment. The business community has confidence in this country and in its justice system," stated Kariuki.

The electoral agency announced the results of the highly contested presidential elections on Monday, August 15.

The candidates for the presidential position were William Ruto of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Raila Odinga of the Azimio Coalition Party, George Wajackoyah of Roots Party and David Mwaure of the Agano party.

The Wafula Chebukati-led commission announced Ruto as the president-elect after he garnered 7,176,141 votes accounting for 50.49 per cent of the total votes cast.

The Azimio presidential candidate on Tuesday vowed to launch a legal challenge to annul the results as declared by a split IEBC.
