Luanda — Angolan head of State João Lourenço received the international observers on Tuesday in Luanda to analyse the issues related to the general election process, which ends with the vote on Wednesday.

Paulo Portas and José Luís Arnaut, two personalities linked to the Portuguese politics and who have already held several positions in the Government of Portugal.

At the end of the audience, held at the Presidential Palace, José Arnaut told the press that there are conditions for everything to proceed normally and within the framework of the law.

He stated that, from a technological and IT point of view, the headquarters of the National Electoral Commission (CNE) is equipped with modern means that comply with international standards for this purpose.

In turn, Paulo Portas said he believed in the future of Angola, with the holding of these fifth general elections in the country.

Paulo Portas and José Luís Arnaut are in Angola as international observers, at the invitation of the Angolan Head of State, to supervise the election.

Even today, the two observers will maintain contacts with leaders of political parties running for the 2022 elections.

Fifty foreign entities will observe and monitor the general elections in Angola to verify the transparency, internal and international credibility and fairness of the electoral process.

Over 14 million voters, including 22,650 residing abroad , spread across 25 cities in 12 countries in Africa, Europe and South America, will exercise the right to vote.

This year's elections are the fifth in Angola's history, after those in 1992, 2008, 2012 and 2017.

The previous elections took place on 23 August 2017 and brought together six political parties.

The MPLA won them with 61 percent of the votes, ahead of UNITA (26.67%) and CASA-CE (9.44%).
