Kenya: Don't Be Scammed By Facebook Pages Using Kenyan Politician Chege's Name for Fake Loan Offers

Is Murang'a county woman representative Sabina Chege giving loans to Kenyans?

On 6 August 2022, the Facebook account "HM Sabina Wanjiru Chegge" posted an offer.

It reads: "HELLO MY FELLOW KENYANS GET YOUR LOAN NOW WITH NO DELAYS: *WHATSAPP MY OFFICE AGENT 0750313173* OR INBOX FOR YOU TO GET; BUSINESS LOANS SCHOOL FEES LOANS EMERGENCY LOANS PERSONAL LOANS AND OTHERS ARE AVAILABLE HERE *WHATSAPP MY OFFICE AGENT 0750313173* OR INBOX ME HERE FOR YOU TO GET EASY."

The offer was posted on a Facebook group page with 12,200 members.

And on 28 July, a Facebook page - "Hon Sabina Chege" - posted an almost similar loan offer on a public group page with 91,700 members.

But are these offers legit?

Unverified accounts

The first account misspells Chege's name as "Chegge", a sign that all is not as it seems.

Sabina Chege's official Facebook page is verified as belonging to her, as shown by the blue tick verification badge. But neither the account nor the page offering loans is verified.

Chege's verified Facebook page makes no mention of loans. It only features her official and political engagements as a leader with a high national profile.

The Facebook page "Hon Sabina Chege" and account "HM Sabina Wanjiru Chegge" are scams run by imposters.
