He said during the raid at a suspected criminal hub in Nsambya, they arrested 11 suspects who would target mostly pedestrians in the evening hours and in the early morning hours to rob them of valuables.

"They were using the pistol to threaten victims though it didn't have any ammunition. They would cock it and threaten victims into giving in and rob them clean."

According to the Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, the pistol recovered had markings to show it belongs to a private security organisation.

"We suspect the pistol is one of those stolen from private security organisations since its number indicate so,"Owoyesigyire said.

The police spokesperson added that an additional 80 suspects were arrested from other parts of the city, with 16 got from Constitutional Square just opposite the Central Police Station from where they operated to snatch among others phones from members of the public.

Enanga noted two other suspected criminals were arrested in Nansana and a Bajaj motorcycle that they were using to trail and rob victims impounded.

"We are aware of the dangers of criminal gangs and we shall continue robust operations targeting them. We can allow for such criminal sanctuaries to happen. We shall carry out more attacks to dismantle these criminal gangs."
