Angola: Portuguese President Confirms Presence At João Lourenço Investiture

Luanda — Portuguese Head of State Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa announced Monday that he will attend the inauguration ceremony of President João Lourenço, scheduled for Thursday (15) in Luanda.

"Invited by the Angolan authorities, the President of the Republic will travel to Luanda this week to attend the inauguration ceremony of the re-elected President of the Republic of Angola João Lourenço on September 15", reads a statement posted on website of the Portuguese Presidency of Republic.

Last Friday, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, congratulated João Lourenço on his re-election to the Angolan nation's top job.

In the message, the Portuguese Head of State wished a continued development of the Angolan political life in a climate of freedom, pluralism and tolerance".

The inauguration ceremony of President João Lourenço takes place at Praça da República (Republic Square), in Luanda.

The Final results of the 24 August elections gave the victory to MPLA with 51.17% of votes, followed by UNITA with 43.95%.

With this results, MPLA gets 124 seats at the National Assembly and UNITA obtained 90 out of 220 seats.

Whereas, the other political parties FNLA, PRS and PHA got 2 seats each, while CASA-CE coalition , APN and P-NJANGO ended up without any seat at the National Assembly for the 2022-2027 Legislature.
