Angola: Marito's Role in Angolan Music Highlighted

Luanda — Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Environment (MCTA) considered Monday the guitarist Marito an "unavoidable reference" of Angolan Popular Music.

In a condolence note to which ANGOP had access, the MCTA states that Marito's name will be engraved in the annals of a future history of Angolan music, which will necessarily and obligatorily have to be written in favour of the country's cultural identity and the recognition of all those who contributed to the enrichment of this intangible heritage.

Mário Anselmo de Sousa Arcanjo "Marito", guitarist and founder of the group "Os Kiezos", died this Monday, in Luanda, victim of illness.

Through social networks, cultural and anonymous agents express a feeling of regret at the death of the "eternal" viola solo dos Kiezos.

Marito was born in Luanda on May 12, 1948, having become famous in the Kiezos between the 60s and 70s, alongside Avozinho, Kituxi and Juventino, sponsored by Pedro Bonzela Franco.
