Angola: President Decrees Day Off Ahead of Swearing in Ceremony On Thursday

Luanda — Angolan head of State João Lourenço decreed Tuesday a day-off across the country for Thursday (15 September), the day of the inauguration of the President and Vice-President of the Republic elected in 2022 general elections.

The decree, which does not cover those who work in shifts system, will ensure a decent celebration of the swearing in ceremony on Thursday.

The document states that the Angolan people exercised their constitutionally enshrined right to vote in the general elections on 24th of August with civility and patriotism.

Pursuant to article 114 of the Constitution of the Republic of Angola, the elected President must take office within 15 days after the official publication of the final electoral results.

MPLA and its candidate for President of the Republic, João Lourenço, won Angola's elections, with 51.17 percent of the valid votes, obtaining 124 seats in National Assembly, the fifth in the country's history, after those held in 1992, 2008, 2012 and 2017

According to the final results released by the National Electoral Commission (CNE) and upheld by the Constitutional Court, the ruling party garnered a total of 3. 2 million valid votes, beating the other contending political parties, such as UNITA, PRS, FNLA, APN, PHA, P-NJANGO and the CASA-CE coalition.
