Angola: President João Lourenço Recommends Greater Attention to PIIM

Luanda — Angolan head of State João Lourenço has recommended the governors of the country's 18 provinces special attention to the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM).

The president was speaking during the swearing in ceremony of the new Cabinet, held Monday in Luanda.

João Lourenço said that since the beginning of the implementation of the PIIM, in June 2019, there have been significant improvements in the development of municipalities and localities.

In order to achieve the goals set out in the plan, the Head of State directed the new governors to better monitor the PIIM execution programme, for the better development of the country.

The Holder of the Executive Power said that the PIIM has been showing that it is solving many of the problems of the communities, such as the schools, health centers, water supply systems, streets of cities and towns.

"We have to ensure that the conclusion of this plan is a success and we are even starting to think about the possibility of extending it when the available resources peter out", he expressed.

The PIIM is meant to materialise Public Investment (PIP), Development Support Expenses (DAD) and Basic Activities (Act) actions, with priority to social actions.

The objective is prevent the rural exodus and promote more inclusive economic, social and regional growth in the country.

This plan aims to increase the autonomy of Angola's 164 municipalities as part of de-concentration and decentralisation policy of administrative competences and, in this way, increase the quality of life throughout the national territory.

During a ceremony, witnessed by the Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança Costa, the Angolan Head of State swore in 12 members of his Office, four ministers of State, 23 ministers and 18 provincial governors.

President João Lourenço was sworn in last Thursday (15) for a five-year second term.
