Angola: Provincial Governors Bet On Local Governance

Luanda — Provincial governors sworn in Monday have said they will bet on proximity governance and continuity of projects by mainly listening to the population.

The Luanda governor, Manuel Homem, said he is prepared for the new challenge, and will work with citizens to improve basic sanitation, public security, secondary and tertiary roads, land management and the issue of citizen participation in the respect of public property.

The governor added that there is a commitment of the province's governors with the citizens, so he will work with the citizens and existing social organizations in the communities in an inclusive way and for a better Luanda.

The Lunda-Norte governor, Deolinda Vilarinho, on her turn, said she is aware of the problems of the province with emphasis on energy and water sectors and roads.

The governor of Zaire Province, Adriano Mendes de Carvalho, said he will work initially by listening to the population, with greater emphasis on the youth, in order to jointly solve the problems of the province.

"We are going to give audiences to the population, visit the municipalities, and listen to the population in order to interact and gather ideas to better govern", the Zaire governor said.

The reappointed Namibe governor, Archer Mangueira, said he will focus on the dynamics of doing more and better, having listed as top priorities those projects defined in the government programmes.
