Angola: President Highlights Role of Council of Republic

Luanda — Angolan Head of State João Lourenço highlighted Wednesday (21) the role of the Councilors of the Republic in assisting the incumbent of the Executive Power, who hopes for the best contributions to the solution of the pressing issues.

The Statesman said so at the swearing in ceremony of the new members of the Council of the Republic, appointed on Tuesday (20), aimed to conform the body as a result of the general elections of 24 August.

He added that, as good patriots they are, he can expect the best advice from them, as they are all interested in a more democratic, prosperous Angola that brings well-being to its citizens and guarantees economic development.

The members of the Council of the Republic are the Vice-President of the Republic Esperança Costa, the Speaker of the National Assembly Carolina Cerqueira, and the Attorney General Hélder Pitta Gróz.

The list includes the MPLA vice-president Luísa Damião, the presidents of UNITA Adalberto Costa Júnior, FNLA Nimi a Simbi, PRS Benedito Daniel, and the PHA Florbela Malaquias.

To integrate the Council of the Republic, the President João Lourenço also appointed Adriano Botelho de Vasconcelos, Alfeo Vinevala Sachiquepa, António Charles Muanauta Cabamba and Deolinda Dorcas Zola da Graça Paulo Teca.

The Head of State also appointed Fernanda Renée Ulombe Samuel, Francisco Manuel Monteiro de Queiroz, Ismael Mateus Sebastião, Jorge Alicerces Valentim and José Carlos Manuel de Oliveira Cunha.

Still, joining the Council of Republic are Luís Nguimbi, Manuel António Monteiro, Paula Marina Valério Alho Simons, Rosa Maria Martins da Cruz e Silva, Suzana Deolinda Sousa Mendes Viriato, Suzete Francisco João.

The new composition of the Council of the Republic results from the need to adapt its organization and functioning to the investiture of the President of the Republic and the Vice-President of the Republic, as well as the swearing in of MPs to the National Assembly emerged from 24 August elections.

The Council of the Republic is a Collegiate Consultative Body of the Head of State.
