Angola: Parliament Speaker Calls for Rigorous Resource Management

Luanda — National Assembly (AN) Speaker Carolina Cerqueira Thursday in Luanda called for rigour and transparency in the management of public affairs.

The request came during a swearing ceremony of the secretary general of the National Assembly, Pedro Agostinho de Neri, elected MPLA MP following the elections of 24 August.

Pedro Agostinho de Neri has already performed the same functions in the previous legislature.

The leader of the Angolan Parliament said she counts on the experience and knowledge of Agostinho de Neri "to help manage the institution's human resources and scarce financial resources in the best way."

"I hope that your oath represents your commitment to continue to serve the institution with parsimony, rigour, transparency and placing the nation's interest above any other", she stressed.

Carolina Cerqueira recalled, on the other hand, that the National Assembly is guided by the Law, norms and good public management.

She highlighted the fact that Pedro Agostinho de Neri had once again sacrificed the opportunity to be a MP (because he was elected), to whom she asked help as she is a new member in Parliament.
