Angola: Eleven Die and 18 Get Injured in Car Accident in Benguela

Lobito — At least 11 people died and 18 were seriously injured after a vehicle carrying 30 passengers overturned on Wednesday in central Benguela Province.

According to the Benguela provincial coordinator of the National Institute for Medical Emergencies of Angola (INEMA), Hernani Francisco, the 18 injured people currently receiving medical assistance at Benguela General Hospital are in critical condition.

The spokesman of the National Police, Ernesto Tchiwuale, said speeding, lack of caution and technical failure of the vehicle were the basis of the overturning of the vehicle.

The National police chief called on motorists to drive prudently and to conduct regular maintenance on their vehicles to avoid such misfortunes, in which the lives of innocent citizens are taken away prematurely.
