Dundo — A 131-carat white Type 2-A diamond was recently extracted from the Lulo mine in Angola's Lunda Norte Province, the country's State diamond company Endiama announced Wednesday.

According to a note from Endiama, the diamond was found in Lulo's Block 19, 11 days after a 160-carat diamond was extracted from the same mine, becoming the fourth diamond of over 100 carats to be recovered from the mine this year and the 29th overall.

Angola's minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, reiterated that the discovery of this diamond proves, once again, Angola's enormous diamond potential.

"I am absolutely convinced that with discoveries of this nature we will be, in the near future, among the largest diamond producers in the world," he said.

Lulo mine has revealed, since the beginning of its exploration in 2010, a high potential of "quality and quantity", having achieved in the first year of exploration the highest value, per carat, in the whole world, in the order of 2,985 dollars (3,005 euros).

Lulo is also the mine where the largest diamond so far found in Angola was extracted, with 404.2 carats, sold in May 2016 for 16 million US dollars, further worth 34 million US dollars after being cut and transformed into jewelry.

The consortium is made up of Angolan companies Endiama E.P (32%) and Rosas & Pétalas (28%), as well as the Australian Lucapa Diamond (40%).
