Angola: Tourism Sector Announces Plans to Convert Hotels Into Schools

Luanda — The State Secretary for Tourism Helder Mrcelino said Tuesday that two Infortur hotel units will be turned into hotel schools aimed to improve training of staff.

Helder Marcelino announced this while speaking to the press, on the sidelines of the main event to mark the World Tourism Day, adding that the process will cover the provinces of Luanda and Cabinda.

According to him, administrative processes are in progress for the implementation of the project, as part of a public-private partnership.

Another challenge, he said, has to do with tourism development to attract more tourists to the country, particularly the tourist hubs of Cabo Ledo, Okavango, Calundula and the Namibe region.

To mark the celebration, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism has been holding ten-day activities started from Sept 20.

Angolan government spent over US$100 million on construction of five hotel units of the Tourism Development Institute (Infortur) to host the African Cup of Nations (CAN 2010), in the provinces of Luanda, Cabinda, Huila, Namibe and Benguela.

The World Day, established in 1980 by the World Tourism Organisation (WTO), coincides with the anniversary of the adoption of its Statutes, on 27 September 1970.
