This year's Triennale will be a hybrid event under the theme: Reflecting on the impact of COVID-19 on Africa's educational systems and how to build resilience to sustain the development of skills for the continent and beyond. It will bring together more than 600 participants, including policymakers, government actors, development partners, the private sector, youth, and civil society representatives championing African education.

The meetings will feature specialist appraisal and introspection of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on learning delivery while setting a new education agenda for policymakers in Africa.

Albert Nsengiyumva, Executive Secretary of ADEA, said: "The Triennale is a tool we leverage for multi-partner stock-taking and evidence gathering. For 2022, we will review Covid-19's impact on Africa's learning systems and set new ambitious standards that will help us push forward, build resilient learning structures and ensure that Africa is meeting its human capacity development goals."

The discussions will focus on four sub-themes and six cross-cutting issues. The sub-themes are:

Foundational Learning, Technical and Vocational Skills Development, The Impact of Covid-19 on Africa's Educational Systems, and Reimagining Africa's Higher Education and Scientific Research. The cross-cutting issues include technology, gender, equity, inclusion, climate change, and the well-being of vulnerable groups, especially children with disabilities, girls and young women.
