The African Natural Resources Management and Investment Centre of the African Development Bank will hold a series of webinars disseminating the findings of five reports on the performance of the timber industry in the Southern African Development Community, the Congo Basin, East Africa, North Africa and West Africa.

The webinar will shed light on the trade balances of different wood products and categories; explore challenges and opportunities to promoting Africa's integration and industrialization through the timber sector; and offer a forum to discuss instruments and incentives to stimulate and encourage downstream processing of the forest resources.

Speakers will include:

Dr Richard Eba'a Atyi, Centre for International Forestry Research

Mr. Themba KHUMALO, Industrial Development Advisor, African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat

Dr Herve MAIDOU, Executive Secretary, Central African Forests Commission

Dr Serge N'GUESSAN, Director General for Central Africa, African Development Bank

Professor Godwin Kowero, Executive Secretary, African Forest Forum

Dr Julius Chupezi TIEGUHONG, African Natural Resources Management and Investment Centre

Forest resources and products constitute an important component of natural resources in most African countries. The African Development Bank prioritizes industrializing and integrating Africa through trade in its natural products and commodities.

The webinar series builds on an earlier series organized by the African Natural Resources Management and Investment Centre titled Harnessing Africa's forestry sector to drive industrialization and intra-continental Trade. One of the recommendations from that series was the need to collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data to fill knowledge gaps on the performance of the timber industry in the five African subregions.
